Every year the Lowlands pop festival draws around 60,000 people to the Walibi World amusement park in Biddinghuizen in the expansive lowlands of Flevopolder, within easy reach of all the major Dutch cities.

Highlights of the 2008 line-up include Sex Pistols, The Hives, The Wombats, The Ting Tings, N.E.R.D., Franz Ferdinand, Underworld, The Flaming Lips, Elbow, The Roots and Sigur Ros.

Other attractions include a full programme of movies, theatre performances, stand-up comedy, video art and street performances. All in all there are about 350 different acts and performances.

The festival boasts six fully-equipped campsites, complete with hot showers and a supermarket. There are also a variety of restaurants, a big market, chillout rooms, sports facilities and a local radio station - a true backpacker's Garden Of Eden.
