An enclosed tranquil courtyard which dates back to the 14th century, the Begijnhof is ideal for those who need to retreat from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam.
Built in the 14th century as a santuary for the Begijntjes,a Catholic sisterhood, dwellings and an a magnificent chapel make-up the courtyard which overlooks a beautiful green garden. Visitors are welcomed to celebrate mass with the sisters but large excursion groups are denied access to preserve the sanctitude.
