Opened by its founder Prince Albert I in 1910, Monaco's Oceanographic Museum & Aquarium is an architectural masterpiece in its own right. Located at the waterfront, the museum is spread over two floors and comprises a wide collection of fauna gathered by the Prince, sea creatures, models of the Prince's laboratory ships and exhibits from his career as a navigator. The aquarium, located in the basement, is home to more than 4000 species of fish and includes the recent addition of a Shark Lagoon.
