Built by architect Charles Garnier at the end of the 19th century, the Monaco Opera House was inaugurated in 1879 by Sarah Bernhardt. From 1893-1951, Raoul Gunsbourg built up a reputation for the opera that rivalled many of the other major opera houses. It has seen many premières and continues to perform new productions during its annual season.
