The Tennis Masters Series from Monte Carlo is one of the most glamorous events on the ATP Tour. Every year it attracts the best players in men's tennis to the famous Monte Carlo Country Club. Rafael Nadal was champion in 2007 for the third successive year.
The tournament can look back on a long and distinguished history. Great champions have included Bjorn Borg, Sergi Bruguera, Thomas Munster and Carlos Moya.
Aside from the Grand Slam, the ATP Master Series is the highest-ranking tennis competition in the world. Its tournaments attract the cream of men's tennis' elite as they vie for the coveted title of World Number One.
The series was created in order to streamline the abundance of tournaments sanctioned by the ATP, each competing for TV rights and sponsors. It includes four tournaments in North America and five in Europe, culminating in the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup, which rotates through major world capitals and showcases the year's top eight players.
