Expresion en Corto, held in the Mexican colonial towns of Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, is an international state-sponsored film festival attracting 80,000 film fans every year. Over 350 films are shown free of charge, often at quirky venues.
The 16 venues where the films are shown include the classical open-air staircase of the University of Guanajuato. Other venues, such as both cities' graveyards and Guanajuato's Museum of the Mummies, make the horror film screenings even scarier.
Workshops, tributes to actors and actresses, Women in Film and Television lunches and conferences all form an integral part of the programme. An International Pitching Market provides a chance for the big cheeses of the film industry to meet with directors who are hoping to secure funding. Finally, each year a guest country of honour is invited to present the best of their films, past and present - in 2007 it was the turn of America.
Please visit the festival website for the latest details on this year's event.
