First held in 2002, when it was known as Vilnius Mama Jazz festival, the Vilnius City Jazz from 2005 has come under the auspices of Vilnius Festivals. With an international line-up brightening up the Lithuanian capital's November nights, this is one of the country's leading jazz festivals.

Following previous years' headline acts, including the Vienna Art Orchestra, Satoko Fujii and Dee Dee Bridgewater, in 2007 the Jon Scofield Trio (plus horns) plays the final night at the National Drama Theatre, leading a strong American contingent, alongside artists and groups from France, Georgia, Germany and Britain. At 10pm each night, over at the Holiday Inn, there is a jam session.
