From medicinal use to artists' material, visitors can discover the versatility of amber at the quaint two-storey Amber Museum-Gallery. Amber is displayed in shades of black, blue and red as well as traditional burnt orange.
Established in 1998, the museum's many highlights include a snail shell in amber, cellars full of rare ancient amber jewellery include the Klebs Collection, dating to the Stone Age, an exhibit divulging the secrets of the Juodkrante treasure and a ceramics workshop with authentic works dating to the end of the 15th century.
The museum also hosts many temporary exhibitions and visitors can purchase a range of ornaments and jewellery of modern and classical design.
