In 1997, Riga Old Town was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites for its unsurpassed collection of Art Nouveau buildings.
Today, Riga Old Town's 19th-century wooden buildings are less prominent than the Art Nouveau ones, and less often renovated. The buildings by Mikhail Eisenstein, a famous Latvian architect, are well restored and freshly painted.
Other must-see attractions in Riga Old Town include the medieval Riga Castle, the world-famous organ in Riga Dom Cathedral, the House of Blackheads, which is the oldest public building in the city, and the Three Brothers, the oldest dwelling houses.
