During the Infiorata, which takes place every year around Corpus Domini day, the whole of the Via Belardi in Genzano is covered in beautiful, intricate floral patterns.
At sunset a solemn procession, led by the bishop, descends along the flowered path from the church to the town, and a religious function is held in another church downtown. After the ceremony the evening is spent relaxing in the wine shops and streets of the city, while local kids clear out the patterns and return the street to its original condition.
The patterns of the Infiorata are designed by local artists, and can represent folk religious traditions, popular works of art or simply geometric patterns. The artists take a lot of pride in this tradition and it has become more of a spectacle in later years, so the designs are invariably complex and beautiful.
