Dating back to 1539, the Foiano Carnival in Arezzo is the oldest in the country and an object of pride for the locals of Foiano della Chiana, who spend all year planning and preparing for the event.

Carnivals have always been a time for competition and rivalries between neighbourhoods, and the Foiano Carnival is no exception. Here the people of Foiano della Chiana's four districts of Bombolo, Azzurri, Rustici and Nottambuli compete to build the most impressive and creative floats, which parade through the town on four Sundays in February/March.
