Open to all international youth chamber and symphony orchestras, the Florence Youth Festival features programmes ranging from baroque to contemporary music. Participants in 2008 include the Brighton Youth Orchestra (UK), Brussels Youth Orchestra (Belgium) and Nusso University Orchestra (Singapore).
Every year, around 1300 young musicians from the 15-20 participating orchestras perform three or four concerts each and have the chance to play alongside renowned soloists - a good opportunity to receive professional advice and learn new concepts of interpretation.
Each orchestra performs the first concert in the main festival venue in Florence - the outstanding church-concert hall Chiesa di Santo Stefano al Ponte (near the Ponte Vecchio), while the others take place at venues throughout Tuscany and other regions.
