The Crawford Municipal Art Gallery is housed in the former Old Customs House of 1724. There are displays of sculpture, handcrafted silver and glass as well as an excellent permanent collection of works by Irish artists.
The Irish art collection includes works by such as Jack Yeats, Sean Keating, Nathaniel Grogan, William Orpen, Sir John Lavery, James Barry and Daniel Maclise. The gallery also presents temporary exhibitions. In 2000, the gallery expanded by creating a new exhibition wing of contemporary art, designed by Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat.
