For decades Cork boasted the largest butter exchange in the world. Dairy was one of Ireland's key industries, with around 500,000 casks of creamy yellow butter exported yearly by the end of the 19th century. Today the former Exhange houses the Butter Museum which tells the fascinating story of Ireland's most successful food industry. The building is also home to the Shandon Craft Centre and the Firkin Crane Centre, one of Ireland's top contemporary dance venues.
