Popular local DJs can be found playing an eclectic mix down at the fashionable Kaffibarinn every Thursday night.
Entry is free, but the bar is small, so arrive early if you want to get in. Early in Reykjavik means any time up to 1.30am, so if you're used to early closing times in the UK, you can take it at a leisurely stroll.
Kaffibarinn was made famous by a certain Britpop entrepreneur named Damon Albarn, but its popularity owes little to his silent partnership and more to its cosy atmosphere, good vibes and impossibly beautiful bar staff.
Iceland is a wealthy country and the prices are high. You need ready cash or a selection of credit cards if you want even a moderate night out. If you're used to London or New York prices, then double them and you'll be on the right lines.
