Sziget Festival is the biggest and best music festival in Hungary, annually creating a town within a town at Budapest's Shipyard site at Óbudai Island. The musical mayhem on 15 different stages features the finest Hungarian and international acts.

Some 45 other venues are also used for over 1000 separate performances, including theatre and kids' events. With hundreds of thousands of festivalgoers, there is an amazing atmosphere. Some camp (arrive early if you want to make sure you can pitch your tent) and many choose specific days to attend. In 2008, highlights on the main stage include R.E.M, Sex Pistols, Kaiser Chiefs and Jamiroquai. Elsewhere, festival-goers may encounter the likes of Iron Maiden and Lauren Harris.

With theatre, outdoor movie screenings, fitness classes, volleyball, football matches and children's entertainment happening all the time, visitors are spoilt for choice.
