The Gyula Castle Theatre is situated in the only brick castle that survives intact in the whole of Europe. Once a year the courtyard is made into an outdoor theatre and on a nearby lake a spectacular floating stage is constructed.
These, and other stages set up around the picturesque town of Gyula, host productions of opera, ballet and drama, as well as performances of medieval and contemporary music. Visitors can feast on a selection of performing arts and music with little legwork and minimum effort.
Should you need a break from the stresses of all this culture, you could jump into a relaxing thermal bath - Gyula has one of the most beautiful spas in the country. The area is rich in subterranean thermal and medicinal water streams, and the Gyula Castle bath has an international reputation in the world of balneology.
