The main events at Budapest's Wine Festival take place at Buda Castle, with a Wine Academy, lectures and workshops as well as the main three-day Wine Exhibition and Fair, where 100 exhibitors offer more than 1000 wines for sampling.
At Saturday's Vintage Parade, around 800 representatives from the various wine regions dress in folk costumes and stage a procession with dancing and music around the Buda Castle district, ending with a lively show on the festival stage.
Over at the Hungarian Open Air Museum (Skanzen) at Szentendre, the Vintage Throng is the Wine Festival's sister event. Along with tastings, cellar visits, music, comedy, children's play areas and activities including scarecrow-making, the most important event here is the choosing of the vintage queen. On the same two days a wine boat runs from Budapest to Szentendre and back again.
The festival also includes a concert by the Danubia Symphony Orchestra and traditionally ends with a charity wine auction, with proceeds donated to the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service.
Full details of the forthcoming festival are released on the Hungarian Viniculture Public Benefit Company Website as soon as they are available.
