First held in 1992, the Budapest Autumn Festival mirrors the longer-standing Budapest Spring Festival at the other end of the season. It concentrates on modern music and performance, bringing the best in contemporary works for the concert platform and stage to the Hungarian capital.

In 2006 composers featured included James Dillon (with his new opera Philomela) and Hans Werner Henze, while director Michael Talheimer brought his version of Faust, given by the Deutsches Theater Berlin. Belgium's Les Ballets C de la B made also its Hungarian debut with the multi-media Foi (Faith).

Expect an equally eclectic programme for 2007, where no doubt the recent passing of Hungary's most renowned contemporary composer György Ligeti (1923-2006) will be commemorated.

Keep an eye on the Hungarian Festival Centre website for breaking news of the forthcoming programme.
