The symbol of the Hungarian capital and the oldest bridge connecting Buda and Pest, the Chain Bridge was opened in 1849. This annual festival - first held to celebrate the Bridge's 150th brithday - has events in front of the Parliament building and under Buda Castle.

The busy bridge is closed to traffic and transformed into a huge pavement with performances by brass bands and dancers. Meanwhile on the banks are more musical ensembles, groups of actors telling stories and a handicraft fair.

On the water, rowboat, canoe and motorboat races give an injection of adrenalin to the day, while in the evening the floating of lighted candles and a firework display bring the birthday celebrations to a spectacular close.
