This world-renowned classical Greek drama festival takes place every summer in the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, an incredibly well-preserved theatre in the Peloponnese (two hours from Athens), and other venues around Athens. Lovers of Ancient Greek drama, beg, borrow or steal to get their hands on tickets.
The Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus was the most celebrated healing centre of the ancient world, its reputation dating back to the 6th century BC. It is named after the god of healing, who was the son of Apollo. For those interested in visiting, the archaeological remains are close to the theatre.
Full details of the year's programme are published on the festival website as soon as they are available.
