Now an event on the international calendar, Athens Fashion Week has raised its profile since its inception in March 2005. Designers from Greece and around the world unite for this four-day fashion extravaganza.

Every March and October, Diners Athens Collections InStyle Fashion Week attracts thousands of local visitors, international press and buyers as well as customers, the odd celebrity and other industry insiders. Some collections are cherry-picked for inclusion in prestigious Parisian boutiques, while others are snapped up and transported across the globe.

In October 2006, 28 members of the Hellenic Fashion Designers' Association (HFD) and four guest stars from Cyprus and Georgia presented their collections for spring/summer 2007 alongside nine Greek high-street labels and a handful of local shoe manufacturers. Designers honoured included Yiannis Evangelidis, Yannis Tseklenis, Jean Desses, Yiorgos Stavropoulos, James Galanos and Dimis Kritsas. There was also a special guest appearance by Patricia Field, costume designer for Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada.

Short and sweet is the message for summer from the Athens catwalks in 2007. Prepare to see dresses with oh-so-high hemlines, shorts that barely make it past the thigh and other fun flesh-baring designs.
