February and March are carnival months in Athens. Numerous events, both traditional and modern, celebrate the different regions of Greece and the city of Athens itself.

Traditional customs, music, dance and song are on show as the people take to the streets. Entertainment includes traditional dances, serenades and mandolin music, rock ballards, piazzolla, tabors and rebetiko, cuban music, samba and tarantelle, jazz, acrobatics, violins, performances by well-known Greek artists and "gaitanaki".

Many performers dress in traditional costumes adorned with bells and there is entertainment especially for the kids. Central Square is a great place to catch all the action and soak up the festive spirit that resonates throughout the city.

Please contact the Municipality of Arts in Athens closer to the event date for further information.
