Horses gallop along Cuxhaven's mud flats at low tide as they compete in the Duhnen Mudflat Race. This must be the only horse race where punters turn out in their bikinis and swimming trunks...
Unlike a standard race course, Cuxhaven's muddy seabed is bound to pose its own set of challenges - it's pretty wet and slippery for a start. Jockeys compete in a series of 12 races for one of a number of trophies. Brass bands, air shows and concerts are all part of the fun.
