The Comminges Festival features sacred music and chamber music strands. Budding artists feature alongside international stars and the organisers make a point of commissioning works from young composers as well as established names.
Created on a shoestring budget in 1975, the festival owes its existence to a meeting between locals and André Malraux, the then French Minister of Culture. It made its name with organ music in the cathedral, before gradually opening up to embrace all kinds of music.
The cultural importance of the great national site of Saint-Bertrand de Comminges is given added lustre by the presence of an Academy of Music, now one of the most highly-regarded centres for musicology and the interpretation of ancient music.
Please visit the festival website for further details of the programme.
