If you're a fan of rustling leaves and falling fruit, visit charming Sauveterre. Its central square (Place aux Arcades) is studded with huge chestnut trees, whose grilled nuts are consumed over the course of the annual Chestnut and Cider Festival.
Plenty of roast chestnuts and new cider warm up visitors, should the autumnal weather let the organisers down. In the evening there is a concert of traditional music. Why mourn the passing of summer when autumn can be this good?
