Up to 10,000 visitors attend the Bannegon Medieval Days in the Loire Valley castle of Bannegon. Archery, catapults and medieval dancing bring this perfectly preserved medieval village to life.
Attractions at the event include a two-day arts and crafts market, a jousting tournament, music and dance. There are plenty of craft workshops, including several supervised workshops for kids. For the parents, there is a traditional medieval banquet on Saturday evening.
This is a terrific event for anyone interested in history or architecture - and an enjoyable as well as educational experience for kids of all ages. Parts of the castle date back to the 13th century, including the Parrazin kitchen. This very unusual feature has more in common with medieval kitchens found in the Middle East than France, and the design was brought back by crusaders returning from the Orient.
