Finland has celebrated its independence from Russia every year since 1917.
The national festivities begin by raising the flag in Tähtitorni hill, in Helsinki. This is then followed with a service at the Cathedral of Helsinki, where by tradition, the President is also present. In the evening the President receives guests - war veterans included. The event is broadcast on television, while demonstrators usually gather in front of the President's Palace.
During the day, celebrations are also held in Hakaniemi market square and parades usually take place.
