The Forces of Light Festival - Valon Voimat - is held annually in Helsinki at the darkest time of the year. It aims to create a network of artists, producers, institutions and viewers in different cities, focusing on public areas and the urban community.
This is not just an art festival or a massive spectacle, but a collective event that relates strongly to the everyday life of Helsinki. Each winter, culture links together with economic, environmental and sociological aspects of urban and regional planning to brighten up the dark Nordic nights.
Helsinki becomes an open-air stage for art, light, sound and fire - any setting serves as a canvas for a creation: from shops and streets to buses, construction sites and other buildings. Over the wintry weeks, you can spot light and sound installations, circus acts and fire artists around town, while Club Lux combines sound, light and movement in unexpected ways...
