Aleksanterinkatu, Helsinki's official Christmas street, is declared "open" in a ceremony at the Senate Square, illuminating the dark winter evenings with festive lights. The official opening ceremony is followed by a parade that travels along the Aleksanterinkatu to Stockmann department store and returns to the square along the Esplanade.
