Fiestas Agostinas
When: 1 - 6 Aug 2008 (annual)
Where: San Salvador
Every year during the first week of August, the Fiestas Agostinas turn San Salvador into a hubbub of excitement and cultural chaos, with events and parades taking place all over the city.

The festivities start at 4am on 1 August with the typical Alborada Matinal, the early morning wake-up call by live bands that resonates throughout the city. From then on, sports tournaments, art exhibitions, puppet and pantomime shows, theatre festivals and food fairs are in full swing throughout the week.

Don't miss the two main parades, the desfile de correo and the desfile de commercio, which begin at 7.30am on differing days each year and travel from the University of El Salvador to the National Palace.
