Boasting the best facilities in Africa, Cairo Opera House in Gezira welcomes regular performances from visiting opera, dance and music companies. It also promotes the Cairo Symophony Orchestra and National Arabic Music Ensemble. Don't miss the Opera Museum upstairs.
Opened in 1988, 17 years after the city's first opera house burnt down, it has a main hall seating 1200 people, a smaller hall seating 500 and an outdoor theatre seating 600. Its affiliated companies include the Cairo Ballet Company, Cairo Opera Company, Cairo Opera Choir, Arabic Music Ensembleand the Cairo Opera Children's Choir.
The Opera Museum hosts a large collection of historic documents relating to the first opera house as well as objects representing recent performances.
