The Cairo International Film Festival has been going strong since its inception in 1976. Along with regular competitions, tributes and controversial films, it features seminars addressing issues such as war in the Middle East and film piracy.
With a long cinematic tradition dating back to the early 1930s, Egypt has a remarkable influence on the Arab world and Cairo is known as the "Hollywood of the Middle East".
