The Danish St Leger at Klampenborg Racecourse was first run in 1937 and is based on English traditions. The English St Leger Stakes is the oldest classic horse race in the world.
When introduced in Denmark the race was for three-year-old Scandinavian-bred horses, but in 1989 older horses were permitted to participate. In 1992 it was again limited to three-year-olds, but now with no restrictions as to nationality.
