Where: Aalborg
Aalborg - a middle-sized city in northern Denmark - plays host to the largest carnival parade in Northern Europe each May. Around 25,000 people participate and more than 100,000 join in along the route. In 2007 the event celebrated its 25th year.

One highlight is the Battle of Carnival Bands. Selected groups from around the world parade through the centre of Aalborg and then hit Kildeparken, where they perform on stage in front of four judges. The grand finale, featuring the top five groups from Friday's contest, takes place in Kildeparken after the Grand Parade.

Children have their own version of the parade on the Sunday, with "Masquerade" as this year's theme.
