First held in 1994, The Mystic Cup in Prague showcases East European skateboarding talent. Expect to see vert and street skaters from around the globe competing in this historical city at the purpose-built skate facility in Stvanice. With US$30,000 at stake, competitors will be eager to impress the judges.
The skate competition kicks off on Friday with the competitors getting their first practice, letting them adjust to the course. Over the next two days the action takes place in two disciplines - Street and Vert.
The Street skating takes place on a specially-designed course that replicates the obstacles found on the street: stairs, handrails and banks, to name just a few. Vert skating is performed on a vert ramp, where the skaters compete for singles titles on the huge halfpipe.
Like many big skateboarding events, the organisers realise that a good party is as much part of the fun as the skating itself. There are plenty of DJs and live bands for entertainment, and the end of the weekend is marked by the Mystic Party.
