Troodos plays host to an international ski competition under the auspices of the International Ski Federation.
Skiing first appeared in Cyprus sometime around 1934, when a group of people created the first "Mountaineering Club" of the island. After the Second World War, the Cyprus Ski Club was created and since then it has had a leading role in the development of skiing on the island.
