Bascarsija Market is a colourful Turkish market located in the Old Town of Sarajevo, full of wooden shops dotted along pink stone medieval alleys with names reflecting the trades that once defined them. The narrow streets house scores of tiny handicraft, carpet, antique and souvenir shops.

Artisans can be seen at their work benches creating a cornucopia of handicrafts. Goldsmiths make beautiful and intricate jewellery, cobblers magic Oriental slippers, and coppersmiths hammer out coffee sets. You will also find hand-woven carpets, textiles and hand-knitted sweaters.

The artisans of Bascarsija are carrying on a tradition started by the Turks over 500 years ago with their handicrafts, known as 'stari zanati'.
