Every year at Christmas time the city of Antwerp sets up a skating rink in the Grote Markt, the large square by the west porch of the cathedral (Europe's tallest Gothic church).
The awe-inspiring backdrop makes for a unique turn around the ice, while the lively cafes nearby offer the chance to warm up afterwards with a hot cup of coffee or a dark Belgian ale.
