First held in 1964 - so at the forefront of the radical reinvention of early and baroque music for the modern era - Bruges' Festival Musica Antiqua is now over 40 years old. This mammoth event comprises an exhibition of sheet music, strings and tuning equipment, masterclasses, lectures, an international harpsichord competition and lunch-time, evening or nocturnal concerts.

The 2007 festival offers an anthology of works by composers such as Leoninus and Perotinus and focuses on Notre Dame de Paris as the epicentre of music during the early 13th century. New polyphonic styles emerged and before long, the style of the Ecole de Notre Dame was emulated all over Christian Europe. The consort Diabolus in Musica bring some of these monumental compositions back to life in Our Lady's church.
