The Retreat is one of the Bahamas' national parks and the headquarters for the Bahamas National Trust.
Even those disinterested in leaves and fronds are soon persuaded by the superior collection of rare and exotic palms, including the curious fluffy Cuban petticoat palm and the spiny trunk of the zombie palm. The palms grow contentedly under a forest canopy of native trees and hardwoods, among which brightly-coloured native orchids and red ginger poke through.
