Celebrating the sound of choral music, in 2008 the Austrian city of Graz hosts the biggest choir competition in the world, the World Choir Games.

The event, formerly known as the Choir Olympics, welcomes new talent from around the globe, with performances held at a wide range of venues. Amateurs hit the high notes and stretch their vocal chords in an attempt to wow audiences and judges in an 11-day choral marathon comprising of 26 different award-winning categories.

At the opening ceremony, participating nations parade through the city to witness the event's flag being raised, then a succession of concerts and competitions bring song to schools, squares and museums across the city.
