It may not be the sea, but the Neusiedler See in Austria's Bergenland, where windsurfing and kitesurfing fanatics head for the annual Surf World Cup, still gets its fair share of waves.

The pros hit the water to compete for the popular title of European Freestyle and Kitesurf world champion. For those that prefer to keep their feet on solid ground, beach soccer, foot volleyball and beach tennis tournaments run concurrently. A musical programme accompanies the event, with well-known bands playing each night.
