Once the seat of Tyrolean royalty, Innsbruck's Hofburg palace dates back to 1460. Empress Maria Theresa put her Rococo stamp on the grand, white-fronted edifice in the 18th century. Frescoes and portraits of the Habsburgs adorn the state apartments.

After a cultural overdose, pause with coffee and chocolatey Sachertorte in the Viennese cafe.
