The tinkling of cow bells on green Alpine pastures rings out as the cattle make their way down from the mountains to the tiny Tirolean village of Reith at the annual Almabtrieb.
Celebrating the cows coming home to their winter stables, this festival features a farmer's market selling local produce like bacon and fresh dark bread, as well as plenty of dairy products, of course. Folk music and traditional costumed dancing take over the village square, while an arts and crafts fair is given over to wood carving, glass blowing, basket weaving and schnapps distilling.
The highlight is the cattle parade, where an endless stream of Alpine cows adorned with flowers, feathers and bells crosses the village to return to their stables.
