The Woodford Folk Festival is a unique showcase of the many aspects of community and culture that make Australia special. First held in 1987 as the Maleny Folk Festival, it moved to its current site in Woodford - which keeps developing - in 1994, hence the change of name. It focuses on artists living in Australia, but also features a generous gathering of special international guests, presenting more than 2000 performers on 20 stages!
Visitors can also choose from a bewildering number of dance events, workshops, forums, street theatre, writers' and musicians' seminars, a film festival and competition, comedy sessions, acoustic jams, history forums, an entire children's festival and an Indigenous Murri Festival, arts and craft workshops, late-night cabarets and spontaneous occurrences. It's one long and unmissable party, with a climax at the dawn of the New Year.
The details for the forthcoming festival are released in November but you can gauge the quality from 2006/2007's line-up, which included The John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Youth Group, Lior, The Herd, The Beautiful Girls, Blue King Brown and the Resin Dogs.
