There is nothing about wine that the people at the National Wine Centre of Australia don't know. It's all here, fascinating information about more than 10,000 different Australian wines and more than 60 wine regions, all housed under one roof in the heart of Adelaide.
The main feature of the centre is the Wine Discovery Journey, which takes visitors on an interactive adventure through the past, present and future of the Australian wine industry via state-of-the-art multimedia technology. Freakily enough, it's even possible to speak with holograms of famous Australian winemakers. The whole process of wine-making, from grape to bottle to supermarket shelf to annoying stain on your carpet, is fully explained with special attention paid to what it is that makes Australian wine unique.
After the tour it's possible to taste an extensive selection of wines in the tasting gallery and you can leave well stocked after a visit to the shop. Finally de Castella's restaurant, with panoramic views out onto the Adelaide Botanic Garden and the centre's vineyard, gives you a chance to see which wine goes best with which dish.
