Housed in the historic remains of Adelaide's Destitute Asylum in the city centre, the Migration Museum is the place to explore South Australia's history and cultural diversity. A walk through the main galleries takes you on a chronological journey through South Australia's immigration history and uncovers the intertwined stories of individuals and communities.
The inscribed paving stones of the museum's Settlement Square have become a popular focus within the museum, which houses a number of permanent exhibitions on the immigration and settlement history of South Australia, as well as an exhibition on the history of the site. Behind The Wall is a permanent display which presents the lives of the men, women and children who lived in the Destitute Asylum, while Impact depicts an illustrated Aboriginal history. The museum also hosts and develops a number of changing exhibitions and public programmes.
