Eights, yacht races and a multitude of other nautical pursuits are undertaken here, but with a twist - the ASSA ABLOY Henley-on-Todd Regatta takes place on dry land, 1500km (900 miles) from the nearest large body of water.

Since 1962, teams of four or eight people have been running up the dried-up Todd river bed inside a variety of bottomless vessels - yachts, bathtubs and rowing boats each have their own races. Spectators can also enjoy the hilarious spectacle of flour, mortar and water cannon-fuelled boat battles. Don't question it, just enjoy it.

Based (albeit loosely) on the Henley-on-Thames Regatta back in Blighty, the ASSA ABLOY Henley-on-Todd Regatta has to be cancelled (as, regrettably it was in 2003) if it rains and the river bed floods!
